SPOKANE, Wash. – GSL slowpitch softball teams gathered Tuesday night at Dwight Merkel Sports Complex for the annual Kenny V Classic, an under-the-lights showcase that brought players, families and fans together from across Spokane.
The event featured teams from around the Greater Spokane League, with games beginning in the evening at Merkel. While the competition brought out plenty of school pride, the night’s focus extended beyond the scoreboard.
Proceeds from the Kenny V Classic benefit student funds at all 17 GSL schools, helping provide added opportunities and resources for students throughout the district.
The event is named for Ken VanSickle, a longtime local athletic director and supporter of slowpitch softball. It gives athletes a rare opportunity to play in a full league showcase under the lights while celebrating the Spokane softball community.
For players, the night offered a chance to compete alongside—and against—familiar faces from around the league in a setting that made the games feel bigger than a typical regular-season matchup.
The Kenny V Classic continues to serve as both a memorable night for GSL athletes and a fundraiser supporting students across Spokane.
