BREMERTON, Wash. — A 4.2 earthquake struck near Bremerton Tuesday afternoon, with weak shaking reported across parts of western Washington, according to the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network.
The earthquake was centered about 12 miles south-southwest of Bremerton, near Wauna, at a depth of about 17 miles. Weak shaking was reported in Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia and Bremerton.
The ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning System detected the earthquake but determined it was too small to trigger cellphone alerts.
The U.S. Geological Survey estimates a 5% chance of another 4 or greater earthquake in the area within one day, increasing to 8% within one week.
