SPOKANE, Wash. — Families displaced by recent Spokane-area fires received more than a meal today. They received a moment of respite and care from five renowned chefs who volunteered their time and culinary expertise to serve a complimentary five-course dinner at The Yards Bruncheon in Kendall Yards.
tonight, five renowned chefs came together to restore that experience, serving a complimentary five-course dinner to 150 fire victims at The Yards Bruncheon in Kendall Yards.
“Food is what brings people together. And it’s what makes everyone feel like home,” said Chef Nick Liberato. “And the thought of having your home taken away from you and everything you own, a nice meal and getting people together in a positive environment should be the medicine that helps out just a little bit.”
The dinner, organized by Chef Adam Hegsted and his organization Eat Good Group, welcomed 150 fire victims in three separate seatings. Each guest experienced a dining experience that began with an appetizer course and continued through a carefully curated menu designed to provide comfort during an extraordinarily difficult time.
“I think what people would like is, you know, just a little break from their day to day and to, like, be able to be taken care of for a minute,” Hegsted said. “And so that’s how we came up with the idea of doing this free dinner, for displaced families.”
The collaborative effort represents far more than a single evening of generosity. Since the fires began, Hegsted and his team have prepared thousands of grab-and-go meals for displaced families and the first responders who fought the fires. The organization recognized that food serves as a powerful tool for bringing people together and providing comfort during times of crisis.
The five chefs contributing to dinner brought diverse culinary backgrounds and a shared commitment to supporting their community. Two of the chefs traveled from Philadelphia specifically to participate in the relief effort, demonstrating the widespread response to Spokane’s fire crisis.
The relief work does not conclude with dinner. On Friday, Eat Good Group will serve lunch at The Yards Bruncheon for those impacted by the fires, with plans to serve approximately 500 people. The two Philadelphia-based chefs will prepare their signature dishes—cheesesteaks and meatball subs—continuing the mission to feed and support displaced families.
