SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office has identified Deputy Brian Lawler as the officer involved in a shooting at Evergreen Middle School on September 8, 2026.
Lawler has served with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office since October 2003 and has worked as a School Resource Deputy for several years. The incident involved a reportedly armed and suspicious male approaching the school.
The Spokane Independent Investigative Response Team is conducting the investigation into the shooting.
The Spokane Police Department serves as the primary point of contact for all inquiries related to the incident. All future communications regarding the matter will be released through the SIIR Team.
Once the SIIR Team completes its investigation, the findings will be forwarded to the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office for review and determination of any potential charges or policy violations.
