SPOKANE, Wash. — Northbound U.S. 395 was fully closed near the Wandermere Bridge following a major incident Tuesday afternoon, according to the Washington State Patrol.
A driver may have been involved in a domestic violence situation before the crash, according to WSP.
The three vehicles were all traveling northbound on the on ramp from Division to Northbound SR395 at Wandermere bridge. The first vehicle where the domestic violence incident was taking place came to a stop on the on ramp. The other two vehicles were behind the first one and collided into the stopped car.
According to WSP a firearm was discharged inside of one of the vehicles and a woman and man exited that vehicle. The man sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and then later was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Another person was transported to a hospital.
Northbound lanes remain closed as the investigation continues. Drivers are being detoured onto Wandermere Road.
There is no estimated time for the highway to reopen.
The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m., approximately 2 miles north of the Spokane city limits, according to WSP.
