Temperatures remain hot for the first day of school in Spokane. Skies will turn hazier, and winds will strengthen into the afternoon.
Highs in the region today will be mostly in the mid 90s with a few upper 90s around the L-C Valley. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for the Lewiston, Moscow, Grangeville, and the Orofino areas this afternoon as wind gusts increase to 25 – 30 mph during the heat of the day. Winds will gust to around 20 mph in the Spokane area.
It will be a smokier day as winds start to shift away from the cleaner northeast pattern we’ve been seeing. Expect some added haze from the south and southwest today, followed by a push of smoke from the west tonight.
Isolated thunderstorms are possible in the North Idaho mountains today, but are unlikely to make much impact before moving east into Montana.
Temperatures will begin to cool quickly heading into the weekend while winds remain elevated. Temperatures will drop to the 70s and low 80s by Friday and get even cooler for Saturday and Sunday.
