SPOKANE, Wash – Voter turnout is low so far in Spokane County, with just under 26 percent of registered voters returning their ballots as of Monday evening.
Spokane County has accepted 25.8% of ballots. That’s 96,122 of the 372,551 registered to vote.
422 ballots have been challenged.
The largest number of ballots came in Monday, so turnout is trending upward.
51% of ballots have been sent in by mail. Just over 48% have been placed in drop boxes.
The Secretary of State’s Office shows turnout so far is on par with the 2021 election, which eventually ended with 37% turnout.
Voter turnout is critical to the Together Spokane initiative.
For the Spokane Schools bond to pass, 40% voter turnout is required.
Because of delays with USPS, elections officials say if you want your vote to count, drop it in a dropbox and don’t rely on a mailed ballot being postmarked in time.
