SPOKANE, Wash. — FEMA will provide disaster relief for much of eastern Washington due to wildfires burning in the area.
FEMA announced Tuesday President Trump approved the request for emergency assistance in Spokane, Stevens, Chelan, Ferry, Okanogan, Yakima counties and the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation, Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation and Spokane Tribe of Indians.
This approval allows for FEMA to direct equipment, resources, and other relief to help fight the wildfires.
On Sunday, Washington Governor Bob Ferguson said this relief was requested for both short-term and long-term action.
“I appreciate the federal government moving quickly and granting our request for this emergency declaration,” Governor Ferguson said. “We are laser-focused on getting assistance to those Washingtonians who have lost so much.”
