SPOKANE, Wash. — A truck crashed into the Spokane Housing Authority building in north central Spokane last night, forcing the agency to close its offices and relocate staff to remote work while repairs are underway.
The driver fled the scene following the collision. A custodian who was inside the building at the time of the crash sustained minor injuries.
The impact caused extensive damage to the building’s exterior. Executive Director Pam Parr emphasized how fortunate the timing of the incident was, noting the severity of the destruction that occurred.
“If it had happened at any other time of day it would have been a whole different story because the amount of glass that flew through the building was pretty significant,” Parr said.
Following the crash, the building was immediately inspected for structural integrity to assess the full extent of the damage and determine whether it was safe for occupancy.
The Housing Authority has implemented a temporary solution to get operations back on track. Staff members are currently working from home while contractors build a temporary wall to stabilize the damaged office space. Parr said she expects employees to return to the building by Monday, pending completion of the stabilization work.
