OKANOGAN COUNTY, Wash. — The Kaiser Canyon Fire has consumed more than 124,000 acres across the Colville Reservation as of Monday, with only 15% containment. The fire ignited from lightning on July 16.
According to Colville Tribal Broadcasts, the Incident Management Team, led by Incident Commander Aaron Thompson, continues protecting structures at risk.
Seasonal temperatures returned Sunday with highs in the 70s and 80s. Dry conditions persist with afternoon humidity at 15-20% and winds gusting to 20 mph by afternoon. Monday through Wednesday will remain warm and dry with southwest winds increasing Tuesday.
The fire spreads quickly through grass and shrubs but moves slower in timber areas.
Level 3 “GO NOW” evacuation orders remain in effect across the Colville Reservation, including Highway 155, Kartar Road, Jackson Ranch, and South Nanamkin Road areas.
Level 2 “BE READY” evacuation orders cover areas east of Omak Lake and north of Columbia River Road. Closed roads include Kartar Road, Buffalo Lake Road south from Nespelem Agency, State Route 155 from Monument to Park City Loop Road, and Cache Creek Road from Nespelem to State Highway 21.
Firefighters will continue direct attack where possible and use indirect tactics when terrain is hazardous.
Air quality has improved in southern areas.
Residents should monitor conditions and take precautions if smoke returns.
