SPOKANE, Wash. — An estimated 20 million children across the United States could be diagnosed with a mental health disorder, but only about 20% are getting the help they need, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The newly opened Emerge Center for Pediatric Family Development aims to help close that gap by providing a range of services for children and families.
The center held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday to welcome community members to its facility. Services include trauma treatment, behavioral therapy and family counseling.
Dr. Elise Hutchison, the center’s founder, said Emerge was created to meet a need she sees in the community.
“Our mission here at Emerge is to build something special that is a huge community resource where we see a community gap,” Hutchison said.
The Emerge Center for Pediatric Family Development is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is accepting appointments.
