LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. — Liberty Lake will face citations starting tomorrow if they exceed speed limits or ride in prohibited areas.
The Liberty Lake Police Department is shifting from an education-focused approach to active enforcement after a month long awareness campaign. Officers have issued warnings during the initial phases, but citations will now be issued for violations.
The enforcement action comes after two people were hospitalized following incidents with golf carts and e-bikes earlier this year. Police identified safety concerns related to vehicular traffic on roadways and the protection of pedestrians and children as primary reasons for the stricter regulations.
Key regulations going into effect
Speed and location restrictions: Golf carts are permitted only on streets with a speed limit of less than 20 miles per hour. E-bikes, e-motorcycles, and motorized scooters must follow the posted speed limit.
Age requirements: Class 3 e-bikes and motorized scooters are prohibited for riders under the age of 16. Golf Carts and e-motorcycle drivers must have a valid license.
Safety equipment: Golf cart drivers are required to wear seat belts. All other vehicles listed require helmets.
