SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Public Schools students will experience something new this fall: a week-long break from classes. To keep children engaged during the time off, the Northeast Youth Center is launching its first-ever fall camp, though the organization is seeking community donations to help fund the program.
The camp runs from October 19 through 23 and hopes to keep kids active and entertained. As a first-year initiative, the center is asking the community for donations to help make the program possible for all children who want to attend.
A centerpiece of the camp is the pumpkin patch expedition, where children will learn about the life cycle of pumpkins and take one home. While the Northeast Youth Center has traditionally organized a pumpkin patch field trip during the fall season, expanding the program to accommodate additional camps this year requires community support.
“We have two additional week-long camps that we had to plan for this year,” said Crystal MuCuen, executive director of the Northeast Youth Center. “The harvest season has always been one of my favorites. Kind of a fall hope is what I think of. We really wanted to make this a beautiful and exciting week for our kids this year.”
The pumpkin patch expedition will include children from the fall adventure camp as well as participants in the center’s ECAP program.
Sponsorship options include $10 to sponsor one child, $50 to sponsor five children, or any amount that works for individual donors. To contribute, text FALLHOPE in all caps to 44-321, or visit this link do donate.
