SPOKANE, Wash. — It has been two weeks since the Upriver Fire swept through Spokane’s Northwood neighborhood.
It burned 14 homes and left others still covered in fire retardant.
Sunday’s Cleaning Service says it has been cleaning off the retardant for a week now. It has partnered with home restoration company ServPro, who are working with clients by calling insurance companies.
Coverage for retardant clean-up varies for each homeowner, but Sunday’s Cleaning Service says some of their clients have only had to pay a deductible.
Brandon Long, co – owner of Sunday’s Cleaning Service, says he was contacted by ServPro because it has the proper equipment to clean the homes safely.
“What we use is high gallon per minute machines and low pressure. If you were to use high pressure on this stuff, you would potentially void a warranty or reduce the lifetime of a roof,” Long said.
Sunday’s Cleaning Service says it currently has about nine homes on its wait list, but it averages cleaning off three homes every two days.
“We’re trying to get to everybody’s house as quickly as possible at this point. That’s why we’ve upped our crews and added more people to the work,” Long said.
Another cleaning company, The Bright Side, is also helping clear off the retardant from homes. They say more than half of the homes they’ve helped, have been covered by insurance.
If this ever happens to you and you can’t use a cleaning service, Sunday’s Cleaning Service says the best way to take it off is to use a garden hose with low water pressure and wash it off.
