AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. — Amazon Prime Week is here, and the only Amazon delivery station in Spokane County is already running at full speed to keep up with the surge in orders.
The Airway Heights facility is one of four Amazon sites in the Spokane area. It serves as the final processing point before packages reach customers across the region. KXLY got an exclusive look inside Tuesday morning as workers sorted through a wave of Prime Week orders.
Inside the station, packages arrive from Amazon fulfillment centers, where they are scanned, labeled and loaded onto conveyor belts. Workers then sort them into bags organized by delivery location before they head out for last-mile delivery.
Operations Manager Richard Manning said the key to handling one of Amazon’s busiest weeks comes down to the people on the floor.
“It comes down to our associates,” Manning said. “Just like the World Cup, we are all team players. We all have our parts that we have to play, and we all have to make sure to get the goal — or the ball, you know, the packages — to the right location and at the right time.”
Manning said a combination of high-tech automation and a dedicated workforce keeps operations on track during high-volume periods like Prime Week.
Shoppers need an active Amazon Prime membership to take advantage of the deals. Amazon releases new offers each day, and Prime Week runs through Friday.
