SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane City Council voted tonight to approve two ordinances aimed at cutting through red tape for victims of the Spokane Complex Fires seeking to rebuild their homes.
The first ordinance allows residents to add an accessory dwelling unit, such as a mobile home or tiny home, to their properties before their primary homes are rebuilt. This provision gives fire victims temporary housing options while reconstruction takes place.
The second ordinance permits homeowners to rebuild their residences exactly as they existed before the fires, regardless of any changes to local building codes that may have occurred since the original construction.
Both ordinances passed unanimously.
