SPOKANE, Wash – When thousands of basketball players, fans and families stream into downtown Spokane this weekend for Hoopfest, plenty of law enforcement officers will be ready.
WSP announced Monday that troopers will team up with Spokane Police, Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies and Spokane Valley Police for extra patrols for the weekend.
WSP’s aviation unit will be over the Spokane area, helping troopers on the ground. WSP will also have more motorcycle troopers working in the area.
As they have in past years, WSP and SPD will stage an impaired driving processing unit at the Spokane Convention Center. This allows them to process impaired drivers without overloading the intake at the Spokane County Jail.
An estimated 250,000 people come to Spokane for the annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament.
The tradition started in 1990 and has grown into the largest tournament of its kind in the world.
Road closures begin downtown Friday.
