SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Public Library’s summer reading program is back, a free initiative designed to keep readers of all ages engaged through the summer months.
The program runs through August and requires participants to log at least 15 reading days per month. Days do not need to be consecutive, and there is no minimum time requirement per session; participants simply need to record their reading. Completing the monthly goal enters readers into a drawing for prizes, plus a free book.
Skyler Noble, the library’s marketing and communications manager, said the program serves a broader goal of building literacy across the region.
“Literacy is so important. Our goal is to increase and extend literacy across the region, and summer reading is a really great way for kids to stay engaged in learning and reading all summer long while school is out,” Noble said.
Children who meet the monthly reading goal receive a free prize. Those include a Spokane Indians game ticket in June, an hour of jump time at Altitude Trampoline Park in July, and admission to the Spokane County Interstate Fair in August.
Adult participants automatically receive a free Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pizza each month in the spirit of the Book It! program that rewarded elementary school readers in the 1980s and ’90s. Noble said the callback is intentional.
“Every month that you read your 15 days, the prizes look a little bit different for adults. It will be a personal pan pizza at Pizza Hut, courtesy of their Book It program. So we are kind of playing off that nostalgia and playing off Pizza Hut’s locally too,” Noble said.
Adults are also entered into a monthly prize drawing. Highlighted prizes for 2026 include a foodie basket featuring a $150 Clinkerdagger gift card and a $50 Birdie’s Pie Shop gift card, as well as a private Terra Blanca wine tasting for eight guests. The library said it expanded the adult prize pool this year.
Registration is open now at spokanelibrary.org/summer-reading. Participants who sign up can also backlog reading days from earlier in June or begin fresh in July. Kids, teens, and adults each have their own program track, making it an option the whole family can take part in together.
