INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – The NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments will not expand, at least for the next couple of years.
The NCAA announced Monday that “expanding the tournament fields is no longer being considered for the 2026 men’s and women’s basketball championships.”
As it stands now, 68 teams qualify for March Madness.
The statement did say that the committee will “continue conversations” on whether to expand to 72 or 76 teams before the championships in 2027.
