PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State Cougars football team inches another week closer to the regular season, today’s first fully-padded fall camp shining a light on the seniors and strong receiver corps.
“We did a good job,” head coach Jimmy Rogers said. “I believe in this wide receiver group, I believe that they all can have a role in this offense and have success.”
Fifth-year senior Josh Meredith is the oldest wide receiver on the Cougs’ roster, and he says he’s thrilled for this new group at the position.
“The talent in that room is unreal, and the depth is really four-deep now,” Meredith said. “We got a bunch of new, young guys that need to get on the trend. But from me all the way to Lando and Mack, the talent does not differ, it doesn’t fall. It’s just a bunch of good guys in there, we’re just trying to ball.”
Meredith also reflected on his tenure in Pullman, looking back on the fact this will be his final college fall camp.
“Nah, it was definitely a long time ago,” Meredith said. “Definitely feel it now. You guys pretty much see me grow up, I was 17 when I first got here, now I’m 22.”
South Dakota State transfer defensive tackle Max Baloun shares the sentiment, saying he brings along old friends from his days in the Midwest to the Inland Northwest to share in this last dance.
“I got a couple other sixth-year guys I’ve been roommates with for a long time, even back at SDSU, they came here too,” Baloun said. “So, it’s kinda going out playing for them, honestly. Playing for all the other seniors on the team, the ones that stayed at Washington State, because I know how how important it is to be in your last season, what it means to win.”
