SPOKANE, Wash. – Ozzie Alonso is a Seattle Sounders legend, known for scoring the game-winner in the 2011 US Open Cup and helping Seattle win two MLS Cups were among many of his great accomplishments in an almost decade-long career on the west side.
Ozzie then spent the twilight of his career in Minnesota and Atlanta before retiring a Sounder in 2024.
Since his playing days, Ozzie bought into Spokane USL, and he returned today to the Lilac City to support the Spokane Velocity in their match tonight.
“It’s a great city. I played in it for many years,” Alonso said on his time in the USL. “Investing in Spokane is amazing because when I talked to Ryan, he explained everything to me, and it was amazing. In my case, I played in USL before. I made the jump to MLS. I think a lot of players want to do the same thing: play, make the jump for the next level. I think it’s why I’m excited to invest in Spokane.”
Alonso will be in attendance for tonight’s Velocity match against Union Omaha, the same team that beat Spokane in the USL League One title game last season.
Kickoff at ONE Spokane Stadium is tonight at 7:00 p.m.
