SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Deputies arrested a man for stealing a charging block from a store and threatening an employee on Wednesday, according to Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 2 p.m. on July 9, SCSO deputies responded to a reported theft at a store near Hastings Road and Division Street.
When deputies arrived, a store employee said a man was cutting electronic merchandise off a wall of the store. When the employee confronted him as he tried to leave, the suspect flashed a knife and ran off.
Deputies saw two STA buses leaving nearby, and called dispatch to see if a man matching the store employee’s description of the suspect was on board.
STA confirmed the suspect, later identified as 21-year-old Michael Y. Grebenchuk, was on the bus, and deputies stopped the bus and arrested him.
SCSO said Grebenchuk said he needed a charging block and told them “I’m sorry, you gotta do what you gotta do.”
When searched, deputies found a multi-tool axe-like weapon and a glass pipe on Grebenchuk.
He was booked into Spokane County Jail for first-degree robbery and third-degree theft and drug possession.
