SPOKANE, Wash. — Every week, more construction crews appear on properties destroyed in the Spokane area fires. You’ll see them clearing the debris and as more families receive approval to start the rebuilding process.
So far, the city of Spokane has issued 137 demolition permits to homeowners whose properties were destroyed in the fire. Of those, 27 families have completed the cleanup. Nine families have been issued a rebuild permit, and 10 out of 19 are under review.
To support families navigating the complex permitting and rebuilding process, the city is offering multiple avenues for assistance. Tuesday, the city is hosting a resource fair at Flett Middle School at 6 p.m., where fire victims can get some answers to their questions about next steps. The next resource fair after that will be on October 26th at Salk Middle School at 6 p.m.
There will also be two members from the city at Shadle Park Library from Wednesday and Thursday this week, from 9 a.m. to 5 pm.
“A lot of people have come in asking zoning questions, building code questions, energy code questions. Asking what set of standards will apply to them when they go to rebuild their home,” said Ali Brast, with the City of Spokane Planning Department.
The last in – person day for the city’s development service center at Shadle Park Library is Saturday October 24th from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
