CHENEY, Wash. — Drivers in Cheney should prepare to encounter a new pedestrian hybrid beacon at the Simpson Parkway crosswalk starting Wednesday.
The Washington State Department of Transportation will activate this beacon on State Route 904 at 9 a.m.
WSDOT says the beacon id designed to help people cross safely on higher speed roads. The beacon will remain dark until someone pushes the button to request a crossing.
Once activated, the beacon will flash yellow to let drivers know to slow down. It will then show solid red lights that will require drivers to stop while someone crosses.
Drivers should remain alert, watch for people crossing and be prepared to stop when the beacon is activated.
