SEATTLE, Wash – The Mariners have found their next skipper.
The team announced Tuesday Jason Kanzler will be the team’s new field manager.
Kanzler comes from Chicago where he was the Director of Player Development for the Cubs from 2024-2026. In that role, he oversaw the organization’s minor league system, players and coaching staff.
Before that, he was on the coaching staff of the Houston Astros, including during the 2022 season.
He’s never been a major league head coach.
“Our goal in this process was finding a manager with the ability to challenge all of us to improve,” said Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto. “Jason has the mindset, expertise, communication skills, and intensity to help create a championship standard here in Seattle.”
“I am thrilled to join the Mariners organization and I’m looking forward to hitting the ground running,” Kanzler said. “This team has an immense amount of talent in all facets of the game, and my coaching staff and I are excited to access and unlock this team’s full potential.”
Kanzler is a New York native and graduate of the University of Buffalo, where he also played baseball. He played three minor league seasons in the Minnesota Twins organization.
He replaces Dan Wilson who managed the Mariners from 2024 until the end of this season.
Kanzler be formally introduced in a news conference Wednesday.
