COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — Voters lined up early Tuesday morning at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds in Coeur d’Alene, eager to have their voices heard in the 2026 midterm election.
Idaho has already seen high turnout for early and absentee voting. Still, about three-fourths of voters in the state are expected to cast their ballots today. Voters outside the fairgrounds said the experience left them feeling empowered.
“I feel great, I am glad I came out,” said William Topps, an Idaho voter.
Sharon Knicely echoed that sentiment. “I feel very excited and proud. Everything, it never gets old.”
Idaho voters will choose a governor and seats in the state Legislature in this midterm election. Voters also weighed in on ballot measures.
A closely watched measure is Proposition One, a citizen-led initiative. If approved, it would repeal Idaho’s abortion ban and allow abortions until fetal viability, or later in a medical emergency.
Sarah Gettis, an Idaho voter, said she came out specifically to support the measure. “I voted yes on Prop One, so I needed to come out and mark that box.”
For some voters, school levies were the top concern. “I really want there to be money there for all the kids to be able to get their education and all the things that they need,” said Topps.
Polls are open until 8:00 pm. Voters can check their polling locations, registration, and get a sample of their ballot through voteidaho.gov.
