SPOKANE, Wash. — Recovering from the Spokane area fires will look different for everyone. Going through the rebuilding process will look different too.
Today, the Spokane Housing Authority launched a new housing relief fund for fire victims. It is designed to help people get back on their feet and help with a wide variety of housing needs.
SHA says it wants to prioritize victims who are now homeless or in unstable housing and hopes to get the money out as quickly as possible.
Fire victims making up to 140% of the median household income for the area will be eligible for the relief funding. For a family of four, if they make less than $154,700 annually, they will qualify.
“We’re intending to use these dollars for a variety of things that might help folks,” said Kelly Keenan, the director of housing assistance programs at Spokane Housing Authority. “The primary thing is going to be rental housing costs. Although we’re also going to be able to help with other housing-related things.”
Applications for the funding will be open as long as there is still money available.
“We’re intending to move as quickly as we can to get money out to folks if we start identifying eligible families,” Keenan said.
If you want to apply, stop by the Spokane Housing Authority’s office on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. You can also apply online by clicking here.
