SPOKANE, Wash. — There’s a new spot to unwind and make memories now marking the end of the Monroe District.
The Velvet Fox is now open on the corner of Monroe Street and Alice Avenue where Dan’s Barbershop was located for more than 60 years.
The Velvet Fox offers wine, small bites and high-end gift baskets for loved ones.
Owner Jody Johnson said she loves the Monroe District and wanted a place she could put that love into.
“The minute I came onto this property, I had good mojo. Loved it. Loved the house,” Johnson says. “Anyone that knows Dan’s barbershop, they know that it’s been under the same ownership, I think, since the inception. [It’s a] privilege to bring it back to life.”
In addition to the wine bar and gift shop, the Velvet Fox has also renovated the house on the property built in 1899 into the Fox Den that people can rent.
