PULLMAN, Wash – Washington State football fans will again be allowed to buy beer and wine in the stadium this season, but some things will look a little different than last year.
The Washington Liquor and Cannabis Board voted unanimously Tuesday to continue the pilot program that began at WSU football games last fall.
A compliance specialist said the agency has been working with WSU for months on recommendations, including more training for people who supervise and enforce alcohol sales.
WSU also agreed to expand the alcohol-free seating areas. This year it expands from the student section to more of the north seating section and adjacent concourses.
In its presentation, the agency says its working with vendor Aramark and WSU to better enforce rules surrounding fan conduct.
WSU and Aramark agreed to address issues that include “the tradition of throwing Fireball bottles on the playing field” and “Accountability measures such as trespass and revocation of athletics event access for students and guests who violate Aramark and WSU policy or offend repeatedly.”
The agreement says WSU will have police presence at each gate, along with alcohol enforcement staff to address attendees who bring in alcohol or are visibly intoxicated.
The alcohol enforcement staff will be responsible for monitoring student sections and identifying anyone who throws an object, “including a Fireball bottle.”
Those violating policies would be ejected for one game on the first strike. After a second strike, they would be trespassed for the entire season.
