SPOKANE, Wash – Parts of Riverside State Park in Spokane reopened Friday, but other parts are closed as wildfire recovery and mitigation continues.
The Old Trails Fire burned through much of the park on August 1st. Washington State Parks canceled all planned events in the park through September, as they work on cleanup and tree removal.
The Riverside State Park Foundation announced Friday parts of the north end of the park are back open, including the Highway 291 day use area, the Highway 291 boat launch and the Deep Creek trailhead.
Areas at the southern end of the park, like the equestrian ara and Bowl and Pitcher remain closed.
A 4 News Now reporter was in the park Friday and was able to see that the suspension bridge near Bowl and Pitcher is still standing.
More areas of the park will open in the coming weeks.
