UPDATE AT 8:30 A.M. SUNDAY FROM WHITMAN COUNTY SHERIFF –The evacuation alert for Malden, WA has been downgraded to level 2. The evacuation alert for Rosalia, WA has been downgraded to level 1. UPDATE AT 11 P.M. A wildfire north of Malden which is about 1,000 acres forced evacuations.According to the Whitman County Undersheriff, one home burned in the fire near Malden. No homes burned in the fire near Colfax, as of 11:15 p.m.
The good news, is it appears forward progress has been stopped. Firefighters say aircraft are helping them fight the flames. State mobilization was activated Saturday evening. State Fire Marshal’s Office personnel will arrive Sunday to dispatch resources. An evacuation center is set up at Oakesdale High School. The cause of this fire is still currently under investigation.
