SPOKANE, Wash. — Firefighters quickly put out two spot fires in Spokane County last night.
According to incident management, one of the spot fires was on the Old Trails Fire and the other was on the Fairview Fire. Both spot fires crossed established containment lines but were under control before they could spread more.
As of the last update, the Spokane Area Fires have burned a combined total of 10,280 acres with no containment. The Autumn Lane Fire is the largest of the three, estimated at about 5,603 acres.
On Monday evening, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office says it arrested someone for starting the Old Trails Fire. The suspect of that, a convicted felon, has been charged with arson in the first degree.
The cause of the Autumn Lane Fire and Fairview Fire are still under investigation.
Firefighters say all three fires remain active. Crews are currently focused on strengthening containment lines, putting out hot spots. protecting homes and reducing the potential for the fires to spread more.
So far, at least 700 structures have been damaged by the fires, but this number is subject to change. It is not known how many of those structures are homes at this time.
