AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash. – Eastern Washington football ended the 2025 season a whole lot better than it began, and the team sounded hungry and ready for the 2026 campaign arriving in just over a month.
“You never feel as good as you want to because you just, you don’t know what you don’t know,” head coach Aaron Best said. “But I think our guys are bigger. I think they’re stronger. I think they’re faster. But I want to play better and more consistent, and that’s what they want.”
Eastern attended Big Sky Media Day today at Northern Quest Resort & Casino in Airway Heights, along with the 12 other Big Sky schools. Southern Utah and Utah Tech both joined the conference earlier this month as full members.
The Eags’ schedule includes a fast start against the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks, a tough conference start in week one, followed by three non-conference weeks.
“I mean, it’s going to be a tall task,” Best said. “Flagstaff is no easy task. No matter what time of year it is, but especially the first game out, there’s going to be 12 teams that are playing a league game, and, so, it’ll be interesting. It’ll be fun. It’ll be different. It’ll be new. But that’s what this presents now with 13 teams and, you know, nine league games.”
EWU begins fall camp on Wednesday, July 29 at 9:15 a.m., and we’ll have coverage from Cheney later this week.
