It’s set to be a high-impact day of weather as triple-digit temperatures coincide with potential severe thunderstorms and new wildfires from lightning.
Weather Alert Day
Smoke has entered the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene area from wildfires in the Idaho Panhandle. Air quality will be in the moderate to unhealthy range for a few hours, with some potential for smoke to lift above our breathing space in the afternoon.
High temperatures will climb into the mid 90s to low triple digits on Thursday, with the Spokane area reaching 99 to 101 degrees. A Heat Advisory is in effect for these temperatures.
Along with the heat, there is a risk of severe thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and Thursday Night. These storms could produce lightning, hail, and strong outflow winds gusting up to 60 mph. Storms are most likely around Spokane between 3 pm and 8 pm. A Fire Weather Warning is also in effect in Eastern Washington for lightning-started wildfires.
Thunderstorms will remain in the forecast through the overnight hours into early Friday. Temperatures will cool down for the weekend with low 90s for highs.
