SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane firefighters were able to contain a house fire in Hillyard Wednesday night when a car crashed into a home.
According to SFD, a driver crashed into a home on Courtland Avenue near N. Perry Street.
SFD says the driver was out of the vehicle, but the car had caught fire and it had spread to the home.
An occupant in the home was able escape safely.
Firefighters discovered the vehicle had hit a gas meter, but the Excess Flow Valve automatically shut the gas off. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
According to Spokane police 24-year-old Cody Johnson was arrested for DUI, reckless driving, and hit and run.
