SPOKANE, Wash – A Mt. Spokane High School student injured by a suspected drunk driver last week is making strides in the hospital, communicating with his family through hand gestures.
Brody Three Stars’ father Rio updated his son’s condition, which was posted on an Instagram page Friday.
“It’s a crazy world where I had a boy that was dunking (a basketball) a week ago and now I’m excited he could eat an ice chip,” Rio Three Stars said. “Progress is progress. Here’s to a little more each day. He was able to put his own socks on today.”
Brody Three Stars is a junior at Mt. Spokane and plays basketball and baseball.
He was a passenger in a car that was hit by an impaired driver Saturday, November 22nd. He’s been hospitalized with a head injury ever since.
The community has rallied behind his family, raising more than $66,000 through a GoFundMe.
On the GoFundMe page Friday, organizers said Brody is making hand gestures, including making a heart with both hands, thumbs up and peace signs.
The organizer wrote that Brody is aware he’s in the hospital, but did not know he had been in a car crash.
“There have been some fun interactions between he and his sister, which has been a gift to her and provided some comic relief,” the organizer wrote. “When he opens his eyes, the family starts talking to him, listening to music and joking with each other like they always do. When handed a little basketball, he grabbed it and shot it back to Rio… This may have been the best pass Brody’s ever made.”
The organizer thanked people who have donated and shared Brody’s story, but said the road to recovery is still unknown.
