SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane’s fashion community will take center stage Thursday as Fashion Week Spokane brought designers, models, photographers and stylists together for an evening celebrating local talent.
The event at Overbluff Cellars featured 70 models and nine designers showcasing everything from upcycled ready-to-wear to bridal and formalwear.
Co-founders Sophia Calhoun and Mackenzie Priest-Nill launched Fashion Week Spokane to address a gap in the region’s art scene. Calhoun, who has a background in apparel design, and Priest-Nill, an experienced model, recognized that Spokane’s thriving creative community lacked a dedicated platform for fashion professionals.
“A huge part of what we do is give people the opportunity to meet and the opportunity to do more creative things with one another,” Calhoun said. “So models are meeting with photographers and photographers are meeting models. Designers are finding models who want to wear their clothes.”
The event extended beyond the runway. Attendees browsed vendor booths, enjoyed food and beverages including, and watched live performances from a DJ and aerial dancers from Coil Studio.
Organizers said the event creates opportunities for both established and emerging designers and models, aiming to build what Priest-Nill described as “a space where designers, models, photographers, stylists and artists could collaborate, be celebrated and grow.”
