TOKYO, Japan – The baseball legend of Ichiro Suzuki lives on, even at 52 years old.
The former Seattle Mariners legend threw a 127-pitch shutout in an annual Japan All-Star game, where he and other Japanese former stars, like 2009 World Series MVP Hideki Matsui, competed against Japan’s best high school girls.
Ichiro also tossed 17 strikeouts, improving on his 116-pitch 2023 performance.
The outfielder played 19 seasons in MLB, mostly with Seattle, where he won the 2001 American League MVP as a rookie. The Mariners retired his No. 51 last year, the same year he entered the Baseball Hall of Fame with a 99.7% vote, the second-highest percentage ever.
