MOSES LAKE, Wash. — Irrigation district employees found a body north of Moses Lake earlier today, and believe it’s the missing man Richard Johnson.
Employees discovered the body in a canal near Stratford Road and Road 16-NE which is approximately 8 miles downstream from where Johnson’s red 2013 GMC Sierra was found on Saturday.
Grant County Fire District 5 firefighters recovered the body from the canal.
On Saturday, an irrigation district employee called 911 just before 1 p.m. reporting an abandoned pickup with its motor running on a canal road near the 23000 block of Pinto Ridge Road NE.
The irrigation district employee then reported what appeared to be a body floating downstream in the canal.
The deputy and employee tried to recover the body, but the body continued into a siphon that runs beneath State Route 28.
The body is now in the care of a coroner, and an autopsy was scheduled for Thursday.
