CHENEY, Wash – The president of Eastern Washington University will be taking a step back as she’s treated for an aggressive form of cancer.
President Shari McMahan shared the news in a video posted to the EWU website Tuesday.
“I have an excellent care team and a wonderful family supporting me through this,” President McMahan said.
VP of People and Culture Cesar Portillo will serve as Special Assistant to the President, overseeing day to day operations. McMahan said she’ll still be working, but in more behind the scenes during her treatment.
“I want you to know that I am still here and I’m still very much a part of Eastern,” she said.
McMahan has been president of EWU since 2022.
