SPOKANE, Wash. — Getting a primary care appointment can be difficult. Transportation costs, busy schedules and limited clinic availability often stand in the way. The Molina Mobile Health Unit is working to eliminate those barriers by bringing healthcare directly to Spokane residents.
Operating since 2018, the mobile unit travels to different locations throughout the greater Spokane region four days a week. It’s fully equipped with two exam rooms, a lab, and an indoor waiting area, functioning as a complete healthcare clinic on wheels. The unit is heavily used on a weekly basis, according to those who operate it.
The mobile unit offers a range of services including sick visits, wound care, physical exams for adults and children, school and sports physicals, and prenatal and postpartum check-ups.
“Breaking down the barriers to transportation is one of the big things,” said Becca, a nurse practitioner with the unit. “Gas is very expensive these days, and so getting to and from clinics can be challenging and a sacrifice at the end of the day. So bringing it to your doorstep is amazing.”
Nurse practitioner visits through the mobile unit are available to Molina members and people with government insurance. However, the Molina employees on the unit can also help connect anyone with the healthcare services they need, regardless of insurance status.
