STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. — Residents in Stevens County Fire District No. 1 will no longer be allowed to have campfires beginning Friday as fire danger continues to increase across the region.
A total burn ban takes effect at 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 17th.
The burn ban prohibits all campfires and any activity that can produce embers or ash. Gas-powered grills are the only outdoor cooking devices allowed, according to the fire district.
Fire officials said fires this year have been spreading rapidly, regardless of how they start, because of dry fuels and breezy to windy conditions.
