UPDATE, 4:39 P.M. Level 2 (Get Set) evacuations have been downgraded to Level 1 (Be Ready) for the wildfire near Newman Lake.
According to the Spokane County Emergency Management, forward progress on the fire has been stopped.
Level 3 (Go Now!) evacuations are still in place for people living from the North end of Cougar and Shady Lane, south to East Foothills Road, east to Shady Lane and West to the end of the Snowy Ridge Lane.

UPDATE, 3:40 p.m. Some Level 3 (GO NOW!) evacuations for the fire near Newman Lake have been downgraded.
People living north to Foothills Drive, south to North West Newman Lake Drive, east to Newman Lake and west to East Temple Road are now under Level 2 (Get Set) evacuations.
You should still be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice and monitor for any sudden changes.
Level 3 (Go Now!) evacuations are still in place for people living from the North end of Cougar and Shady Lane, south to East Foothills Road, east to Shady Lane and West to the end of the Snowy Ridge Lane.
An evacuation shelter is being opened at the East Farms Elementary School located at 26203 Rowan Avenue.

UPDATE, 2:37 p.m. Evacuations have been expanded for a wildfire in the Newman Lake Area.
According to Spokane Regional Emergency Communications, Level 2 (GET SET) evacuations are now in place west to Shady Lane and the end of Singing Hills Drive, east to Green Mountain Lane, north to the end of Thompson Creek Road and south to North West Newman Lake Road and Muzzy Road.
People living in this area need to be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice. If you need extra time or have pets or livestock, you are encouraged to leave now.
All Level 3 (GO NOW!) evacuations are still in place.
An evacuation shelter is being opened at the East Farms Elementary School located at 26203 Rowan Avenue.

The Washington Department of Natural Resources estimates the fire to be around 3 acres. Crews are working to get the fire handled quickly.

People living in the evacuation area must leave now due to life-threatening conditions in the area.
