SPOKANE, Wash. — The Lilac City Figure Skating Club is bringing back its summer Learn to Skate program, offering lessons at Eagles Ice Arena for skaters of all skill levels.
Sessions run in July and August. Each week includes 30 minutes of group instruction followed by 30 minutes of practice ice time. Registration is $90 per session and includes skate rentals and a pass for five public skate sessions.
Classes are open to skaters ages 4 and up, with participants grouped by age and skill level. Adult group classes are also available during Wednesday sessions.
Coach Mikayla James said watching skaters develop throughout the program is one of the most rewarding parts of the job.
“It is really fun seeing how kids grow throughout the program — you get them when they are tiny tots and you see them progress,” James said.
Club skater Evie May echoed that sentiment.
“It is amazing. I love seeing how they progress and see the little kids turn into friends.” May said.
No prior skating experience is required. Coaches recommend bringing gloves, long socks, comfortable layers and a helmet for beginners.
Skaters who advance beyond the basic levels can move into the club’s Aspire Program for more structured training. Private lessons are also available for an additional fee.
