SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga Bulldogs crushed the Washington State Cougars in a 19-8 run-rule win after seven innings.
The Zags opened their home slate to an impressive win after 21-straight road contests to open the season. The 11-run win tonight is their third in a row and largest margin of victory since beating the Cougs in Spokane by nine last season.
Maddox Haley had an outstanding five-hit, six-RBI night. The designated hitter mashed two home runs and two doubles, ending the game only a triple-shy of the cycle.
Despite the loss, Matt Priest had a standout night for WSU in left field, as he hit 3/4 and turned in five of the Cougs’ six RBIs.
Gonzaga hits the road for a three-game weekend series at the Pacific Tigers, while Washington State returns to Pullman to host the Nevada Wolfpack also in a three-game weekend series.
