SPOKANE, Wash. — As the war continues, gas and diesel prices remain high, hurting many drivers and companies wallets across the region. Local trucking companies and nonprofits in Spokane that rely on diesel for their trucks are feeling the increase.
Washington state’s current average diesel cost stands at $6.10.
“Yeah, the unfortunate thing, you know, when the fuel jumps up like this is we all pay for it, you know, food, furniture, medicine, everything that gets hauled on a truck, which is almost everything,” said Jeff Bosma, owner of Fastway Freight Systems.
The company has also started filling up their bigger trucks in Idaho, where diesel costs roughly $1.20 less per gallon.
Nonprofits in Spokane are also impacted. 2nd Harvest uses large trucks to carry loads of food across the state and has had to make changes and spend more than they usually do.
“Any time prices go up, that affects you. But we always make adjustments in in this business, in the food security business,” said Eric Williams, a 2nd Harvest team member.
The organization mentions that any donations to the food bank would help offset these extra costs.
