SPOKANE, Wash. — For the first time since Lime scooters and bikes hit Spokane streets, residents have been able to use them through the winter months.
This comes after the City of Spokane reached an agreement with Lime’s parent company, Neutron Holdings. According to a statement from City Planner Ryan Shea, the change has several benefits for the city and residents.
“Keeping the program operating will help avoid disproportionately affecting those that have come to rely on these scooter and bike for trips, continue efficiently facilitating short trips like travel to and from transit stops, and help decrease automobile use and wear and tear on our roads,” Shea said in the statement.
Since their launch in Spokane in 2018, the scooters and bikes have generally been available from March to November – taking a hiatus for winter weather.
According to the statement, Lime will still “proactively work” to remove the scooters and bikes before snowy or icy weather. They will be brought back onto the streets “once it is safe to do so.” This is meant to improve safety, keep the sidewalk clear and help with snow removal.
The scooters and bikes are part of the city’s WheelShare program. According to the statement, people had taken over 500,000 rides in 2025 as of late October.
“WheelShare has become an important part of the City of Spokane’s transportation system,” Shea said in the statement. “Winter operations are a key part of keeping the program safe and sustainable.”
