POST FALLS, Idaho — The I-90 westbound off-ramp at the Highway 41 interchange will reopen by noon Friday after being closed since March, according to the Idaho Transportation Department.
The ITD closure has caused significant traffic backups and hurt local businesses during the interchange reconstruction project.
“There’s a lot of construction going on near those parking lots, I feel like they’re not as easy to get to so I’d assume people are losing business because of that,” said River Justin, who travels through Post Falls.
Ben Straughen, who commutes from Rathdrum to Post Falls daily, said the construction has added 15 minutes to his drive.
“[It’s] a pain in the butt. We were hoping that this construction would wrap itself up really soon here but it hasn’t,” Straughen said.
Once the off-ramp opens, drivers headed north on Highway 41 will bypass the intersection and merge with northbound traffic, ITD officials said. Drivers going south on Highway 41 will wait at the new traffic light to turn left.
ITD added lanes to the off-ramp and installed the traffic light as part of the improvements.
“I’m excited to see what it looks like. Hopefully traffic will flow better,” Justin said.
The complete interchange project won’t finish until sometime next year, according to ITD. The department encourages drivers to drive carefully and follow signage when the off-ramp opens Friday.
