SPOKANE, Wash. — Police arrested a man for domestic violence after a SWAT standoff in North Spokane on Sunday morning, according to Spokane Police Department.
On August 31 around 11:30 a.m., SPD responded to a domestic violence call at a home near Wedgewood Avenue and Wiscomb Street in North Spokane.
The caller told police 31-year-old Carlos Barrios was in violation of a protection order by being at the house and refusing to let the victim leave.
When officers arrived, they entered the home and were able to safely remove the victim from the house.
Barrios then moved into the basement and refused to come out for police.
SPD called in support from SWAT, the Hostage Negotiation Team and an Air Support Unit.
After several attempts at communication with Barrios, a drone was sent into the home to deploy a chemical into the basement.
Barrios soon exited the house with several weapons. The SWAT team was able to arrest Barrios without any incident.
He was treated for exposure to the drone chemicals and booked into jail for first-degree kidnapping, second-degree domestic violence, residential burglary and violating an order of protection.
