CHENEY, Wash. – Eastern Washington suffered another close loss at Roos Field Saturday night, falling to Cal Poly 31-27 in a back-and-forth Big Sky matchup.
The Eagles led 27-21 in the third quarter, but the Mustangs scored the final 10 points, including the go-ahead touchdown with 1:03 remaining.
Nate Bell completed 23 of 37 passes for 253 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for a score. Kevin Allen III added a rushing touchdown, and Jamai East and David Cabrera each caught a touchdown pass.
Eastern’s defense forced three turnovers, including interceptions from Jaylon Jenkins and Ambrose Marsh, but Cal Poly’s rushing attack proved difficult to slow down. The Mustangs finished with 289 rushing yards and 428 total yards.
The loss drops EWU to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in Big Sky play.
The Eagles hit the road next week to face ranked UC Davis on Saturday, Oct. 2. The game kicks off at 7:15 p.m. PT on ESPN2.
